I have discovered a fabulous website I am using for review. It is called Quizizz. There is a free app you can download, but you can play without it. You do have to have an account to join my class though. When students have an account I have  access to their results on games I assign. I suggest that students use the email address they use for computer class when setting up their account. When you also include a parent email, you will receive result emails also. Please also ask them to make their user name the name I call them to be sure I give credit where credit is due. I have listed an invitation code for each grade below. The link expires two weeks from today. If you find this information after Dec. 19, message me and I will regenerate another invitation link.

7th grade

Mrs. Beaty's Assignments December 2-5

Well, we had class Monday and Tuesday. If your Chief was absent, he/she is responsible for getting the notes and assignments from another student. Try to establish good work ethic in your child by having him/her attend school unless he/she is sick, on an approved trip, involved in a school extracurricular activity or sport, or it's a school holiday. Most teachers continue to teach, have tests, give assignments, and quizzes regardless of how many students are present. I overheard some Upper School students talking this morning about the tragedy of having to come to school today and they were irate that certain teachers were going to give graded assignments. My question is "If it is not a school-wide holiday, why are students entitled to be absent or to check out?" Let's instill important qualities into our children such a good work ethic and following rules.

I can't believe December is upon us, but I am looking forward to the season!

7th grade will be reading the short story "Seventh Grade" and "Thank you, M'am"from our literature book, continuing with our study of verbs, and reviewing vocabulary.

8th grade will be continuing with verbs, reviewing vocabulary, and beginning the novel Black Duck. STUDENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO READ SOME OF THIS NOVEL AT HOME.

6th grade will be continuing the study of verbs, reviewing vocabulary and reading Fever 1793.

Everyone will have a vocabulary test Friday!

Students love to tell me they didn't know about a quiz, assignment, test, etc. That is the purpose of this blog! Tests & quizzes are on the calendar. I also send text messages and notes in Reminder, so parents and students know exactly what is going on in my class.

For many parents, a teacher is the person who either gives their child a good grade or a bad grade, but our job is to teach students the skills they need to be successful in life. However, teachers and parents are partners. We need parents to help us prepare our youth for college and the work force. From now on, I will try to send pictures of your child's tests and quizzes. This will not always be possible, but I will give it my best shot. The purpose is not to show you how great or poor your child is performing, but it is to let your child know that we both care about what he/she is learning and not just about the grade. Please take the time to discuss these tests and quizzes with your child.

Come out and support our basketball teams at home Tuesday night!

We will be writing sentences about each concept during the week and putting them all together by Friday. The essays will be turned in for a test grade on Monday, Nov. 25. It will count as a test grade in the 3rd nine weeks. Projects that are late and are not present at the competition will result in a zero (NO exceptions).

1. ALL students in grades 6-9th are required to enter the local school science fair competition.

2. The topic for the project and a one paragraph description is DUE MONDAY, DECEMBER 2nd, at the beginning of science class. The paragraph MUST be typed and consist of a description of the question to be answered, hypothesis and experiments that will be used to prove/disprove the question. DO NOT begin work on your project until you have approval from me.

3. There will be two basic categories in three grade divisions (5-6 gr, 7-8 gr, 9-12 gr):

Note: at least 40% of the class must participate in each category. If there is more than 60% of the class that want to participate in one of the two categories, some will be re-assigned on a first come, first served basis. Therefore, it is in your best interest to submit your topic as soon as possible.

4. Students may not reuse projects that they or other students have used in the past (all projects                must start from scratch).

5. All entries must be an experiment. NO DEMONSTRATIONS or DISPLAYS of known                        scientific information will be allowed to compete. You must try to prove something.

Halloween Week is Here!

We did not get to watch or read the tales in preparation for our 7th, 8th, and 9th grade field trip this Thursday, so we will fit this in this week. We will also continue our study of punctuation.

I will be out Wednesday (a dermatology appointment-please pray I do not have basal cell cancer on my nose.) There is always the temptation to misbehave when a substitute is in charge. If the sub gets your child's name, he/she will have detention.

I need another driver for the field trip! I am sorry to say that the drivers have to pay for a $20 ticket as well :(   Students must wear uniforms on the trip. Send money for lunch.  We will leave the school at 7:45 sharp!!!!! Hopefully, we will return around 3:00. All students are expected to attend. There will be an assignment when we return. There was a parent who volunteered to drive one of our short buses, but I can't remember who.  WAS IT YOU?????

Drivers: Ms. Sellers, Mandy Redding, Blakely Stephenson, Kim Beaty, Heather Erickson, Amy Watson, Dawn Greene, Stacy Walker, Lindsey Ming, Mimi Jones.  Did I leave anyone out????

We will not have vocabulary this week!

Mrs. Teresa Pre-Algebra week of 10-28

Well this past week was a little bit of a mess since I got sick in the middle of the week. This week we will pick back up in our Saxon textbook, covering lessons 22-25. Our next test will be Tuesday, Nov. 5th. We will also have a notebook check this day. Remember, the notebook counts as a test grade. Students should have the notes taken in class for each lesson as well as the homework in order in their spiral notebook.

Parents, I cannot stress enough how important it is for your student to learn their multiplication facts 1-12. It is never too late for them to learn these facts. No they won't enjoy practicing them, but they will enjoy the outcome. Please buy or make a set of flashcards and study with your child. They should not be counting these out. It takes them a long time and they are making mistakes. Thank you for all you do!

Remember to buy school pictures by October 21.

6th Grade--Chapter 11 Lesson 1 this week. Also students have chosen a historical fiction AR book. They will take an AR test on it for a class grade and they will complete a project. On Wednesday, October 16, students should bring in 4 objects that represent or describe them...not their favorite items such as a specific team, video or drink, but something that represents their inner qualities and likes/dislikes. (My example was my passport because I love to travel, my mother's ring to represent the love I have for my family, a little jar of beach sand because the beach is "my place of restoration", and my red checking pen to represent my teaching career.) The items should be placed in a bag and kept private until class. This will get us started on the project as we discuss symbolism.

Mrs. Beaty's Assignments September 30-October 4

I'm so glad October is almost here!

Last week was a crazy week of Homecoming festivities. We made a lot of great memories, but I am glad it happens only one time each year! Thanks for not rolling my yard!!!!

We missed our vocabulary tests Thursday because I had to leave school for a family emergency. My step dad was diagnosed with lung cancer, and it has spread to his bones. I had to make a quick trip to Opelika to check on him and my mom. Although he is a very young 80 years old, he has chosen not to pursue any treatments. My mom is devastated, so please be in prayer for her and Mr. Jimmy as they live day to day knowing his time on earth is almost over. We all rejoice knowing he will spend eternity with his Lord and Savior.

We will have the 5-word vocabulary test that we missed Thursday, this Tuesday, and we will have our regular test Friday. Remember: We have last week's words and this week's new words which make a total of 10 words Friday.

We will have bell ringers this week. Ask your Chief if he/she is keeping up with them. It takes approximately 3 minutes to complete. If your child has a zero in STI for a bell ringer, it is because he/she does not come in to class, get seated, and get busy. It is a VERY easy assignment and is in the 20% category.

We will be finishing our essays this week. The final copy is due Wednesday. We will begin prepping for the Patriot's Pen contest. You may help your Chief at home if you would like to because it is not possible to get a quality essay with the time we have available in class. The topic is "What Makes America Great?" You may Youtube "Patriot's Pen Speeches" for ideas. They are due October 24.

I have been promising to watch the movies that go along with summer reading. Maybe it will happen this week.

We do not have school, Monday, October 7. Teachers and staff will be attending professional development in Montgomery.

Pee Wee & JV games this Tuesday at Chambers!

The Junior Class will be selling Burger King biscuits each Wednesday, $2.00.

The Junior Class is hosting a Corn Hole Tournament, Friday, October 11, 5:00 p.m. in the gym. The entry fee is $30/team. Contact Kristy Parker, Julie Bailey, or Kim Beaty for more information. The deadline to sign up is October 9th. Help us raise money for the prom by participating in this fun event!

Happy Homecoming Week!!!

This week will be totally stressful, chaotic, but lots of fun! Homecoming is about making memories. Students might not remember that Lois Lowry authored Number the Stars, but they will remember the skits, the parades, and field day.

We have been writing essays about our summer reading books. The 6th, 7th, and 8th grades will write most of theirs in class, and complete the final revision at home. Please help your Chief edit his/hers. (President Donald Trump has an editor.) (9th graders have already submitted their essays.)

Reminder: 6th, 7th, 8th grades will write for the Patriot's Pen. You may help at home! It is due October 24.

6th, 7th, 8th, & 9th grades: Test Tuesday, September 24: allusion, theme, symbolism, and personification. We have talked about these literary devices since the first day of school! I will review in class Monday.

Be your family to Skit Night, Thursday, 6:00 p.m. You will get to see some really talented kids!

Come cheer on the Chiefs Friday night and cheer for our homecoming court and queen! (I will not be at the game-it's Shelley's last Chi O Parent Weekend at Auburn. I am so sad to miss the homecoming festivities Friday night but happy to spend time with my baby girl!)

Go Chiefs!

Beaty's September 3-6

I am getting an early start on next week because I will be in Charlotte visiting my grandson this weekend (insert praise hands).

Concerns: Each day we have a bell ringer. Students are to enter the room quietly, sit down and begin working. The bell ringers for the week go on the same sheet of paper, so, by Friday, there are 5 brief activities on 1 sheet of paper. Last week, many students did not turn one in, but when I asked them where they were, they produced them. (My question is why didn't they turn them in when I asked for them? Not listening? Not paying attention? Went home and did them hoping to turn them in late?) Other students wrote the assignments on different sheets of paper and turned only half of the assignments in. From now on, students follow my directions or do not receive credit for this very easy assignment.

We are discussing summer reading novels in every class 6th-9th. Can you believe that some students do not bring their novels to class?!?! How will they pass the quizzes, the tests, the writing assignments, etc. without a book?   Please ask your Chief if he/she takes his/her novel to class.

Vocabulary test every Friday 6th-9th grade.

Today we had our first quiz on the summer reading, and we will have another quiz next Thursday in every class.

Patriot's Pen is in October. The theme is "What Makes America Great?" Every student in grades 6th-8th will be required to write this 300-400 word essay. We will work on it in class, but feel free to get involved with your child on contemplating what makes our country so great!

9th grade The Outsiders project is due Tuesday, September 3!

Hope to see you at a JV or varsity football game, a volleyball game, or the Pep Rally Friday!

Go Chiefs!

Science News

We are off to a great start this year. I am looking forward to great things with middle school.

I am in the process of setting the date for the science fair. The district fair falls early in January again this year. Please give me your opinion. Would you rather have our local fair mid- December before the holidays or early January? Last year we chose early January, but I was worried about it hanging over your heads during the holidays. I may have no choice after looking at the school calendar, but I would like some input from you guys since the bulk of the work falls on your shoulders.

6th grade

We will be making topographical maps for our lab this week as we finish chapter 1.
The test will be Tuesday, Aug. 27

7th grade

I will be handing out information for a project about cell parts on Friday. It will be due the following Friday, Aug.30.

Welcome Back! We had a great couple of days last week and now we are ready to get down to business. Your students are taking Pre-Algebra this year and I am so excited to teach them again!
This week we will cover lessons 1-5. Our first test isn't until lesson 10 so we have a little while before we are testing. As you know I give homework Monday through Thursday. Homework is practice for the test so it is vitally important that your student gives it their best. I am looking forward to a great year! If you need me please feel free to call me at (229)291-6520.
