Hello, February!

We've spent all the time I can allot to learning our prepositions. I am very saddened at those who chose not to learn them. Adjective & adverb phrases, subject/verb agreement, and pronoun case will be harder for them to master. We had so many that remembered all 58 of them and received a treat! (No grade was given.)

Please look in STI to see your Chief's grade on the Literary Device Notebook. Students had 2 weeks to complete 9 pages and 2 days to complete 4 simple literary devices-many chose not to do them. We will continue to work in them, so please encourage your child to follow instructions and complete the assignments. Students will turn in Literary Device notebooks Monday for a grade. They must have all the old ones corrected along with the words added this week.

This week we will learn about adverbs. Students will take notes from a powerpoint. We will practice, practice, practice in class. We will have an adverb test Thursday.

7th graders will also be reading Black Duck in class & during reading period. They should have their book in class! They will be reading outside of class as well.

Our varsity girls basketball team will be in search of a Sweet 16 victory Thursday. Watch social media for more information. Go, Chiefs!

Quiz - Wednesday     Test- Friday

Project Information will come home on Wednesday, January 29.

To do well in Saxon Math. homework must be done completely and with effort. I am seeing many students who are not doing this with homework and their averages are dropping. Please encourage your child to be more responsible with the assigned homework.

Mrs. Teresa Week of 1/27

This week we will complete lessons 41-45. Our next test is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 4th. over lessons 1-45.

Please stress with your student the importance of paying attention in class and not playing. Many of my students are playing or zoning out during class time and this comes back to haunt them when it comes to a test.

Also, I understand that homework is not fun. I understand that many of my students play sports and that takes time. However, homework is vitally important. Every single question that is on a test has been seen in the the homework at least once. Homework is practice for the test. We expect our students to practice for the game, why should we expect any less for their academics? Please make homework a priority in your home. Encourage your student to get the right answer and not just write something down to get the grade in the grade book.

As always, thank you for your support and for sharing your kids with me!

LOOK AT THIS DATE 1/27-1/31

I will be out of town this weekend, so I wanted to get next week's schedule on the blog because I know so many of you look at this to plan your week.

6th, 7th, 8th We will continue to review subjects, verbs, prepositions, and adjectives.

I am aware that several students are cheating on the preposition quizzes. We will have a quiz on all 5 rows next Friday. Some are writing them on their arms and hands, some have cheat sheets between their legs and up their sleeves, and some have their notebooks open on the floor. It is very hard to walk around the room and watch all 20 plus students in the classroom at the same time,  so we will see who actually learned them.  Students will be searched before entering the classroom and administrators will help me "police" the students.  A message needs to be sent that we encourage learning and earning.

Mrs. Beaty's Assignments 13-17

Image result for learning is important

Grammar is like a puzzle: if you miss a skill, you don't get the entire picture. I stress this to the kids. If you know your prepositions, you can easily determine pronoun case and subject/verb agreement. This is why it is imperative that students memorize these. It shouldn't be that hard. Most Lakeside students memorized them in the lower grades, and WE have already memorized them once this year. So, students must make 100 on the quizzes or take that quiz over along with the next column of words.

We are now adding subjects and verbs to our skill set. Students have been picking subjects and verbs out of sentences since the 3rd grade. I give a plethora of ways students can easily spot the subjects & verbs in a sentence. The problem is students don't listen. Does anyone have any magic pixie dust to make students listen and CARE?  Seventh & eighth graders took a subject and verb quiz this week, and the scores were very low. (I did have a 100 and 6 A's.) We are continuing to practice these skills and will have a TEST on them next Thursday.

6th, 7th, & 8th Preposition  #2 quiz Wednesday
6th, 7th, 8th Preposition #3 quiz Friday
6th, 7th, 8th "Word for the Year" paragraph Monday
6th, 7th, 8th Subjects & Verbs test Thursday
6th, 7th, & 8th Literary Device booklet due "alliteration-pun"

NO VOCABULARY THIS WEEK!

7th grade: 2 AR books this 9 weeks!!!!!!

We will also try to work on literary devices this week!

"I had a terrible break," said teacher EVER!"
In spite of a terrible stomach virus making its round through our entire family and the death of my stepfather, my Christmas holidays were wonderful. Spending time with family and friends is always rejuvenating. With the chaos of nine weeks test and getting my classroom cleaned, several Christmas gifts were left without tags. I will not be sending thank you notes, but please know that I appreciate and will cherish each gift. Thank you so much!

6th,7th & 8th Grades: I sent a picture or a reminder of the list of prepositions and the dates of testing (first one is Thursday). Failing these quizzes is not an option! Vocabulary quiz Friday for 7th & 8th ONLY. This week we are going back to the basics to make sure we know how to pick out subjects and verbs in sentences. We will be working on a literary devices booklet and some of this work will be completed at home.Thursday, we will have a test on subjects and verbs.

Mrs. Teresa week of 1/6

This is 2020!!!! Hahaha I know terrible worn out joke...but I've been waiting to say it. Welcome Back! I have missed my kiddos so much. I trust you all had an amazing Christmas break. We will hit the ground running Monday morning. This week we will cover lessons 36-40. Our next test is scheduled for Tuesday, January 14th. This will be over lessons 1-40. Please remember your child has homework. I am torn about homework to be honest. I want them to have time to be kids but I also understand the need for practicing the skills they learn. I am finding that many times when I ask my students why they are not completing their work and what exactly is taking up their time it is not family time, time playing a sport, or even time spent outdoors running and playing. No, it is time spent playing video games or time spent on their phones. I know this is the times we live in now, however let's try to encourage our kids that they need to make academics a priority. Hope everyone has a great week back!
