True Confessions Projects


True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle
Project

Choose from the projects listed below. Projects are due Wednesday, March 4.

Ø Scrimshaw Art- Produce a piece of scrimshaw inspired art depicting a scene from the book. Don’t worry mate, plaster or soap may be used if you cannot find a whale bone.

Ø Write a newspaper article about an event from the book. Suggested headlines might read, “Girl Becomes Crewmember”, “Captain Andrew Jaggery Verdict”, “Murder on the Seahawk”,  or “ Trial at Sea”. Feel free to come up with your own headline. Newspapers have limited room, must be 200-500 words, me hearty.

Ø Ten slide PowerPoint presentation on the science of sailing. Must include part of a sailboat and uses with pictures as well as an explanation of how wind powers a boat. What does a sailor do when the wind is still?

Ø We have read Charlotte’s version of the events. Write 10 Captain’s Log entries concerning the events written from Captain Jaggery’s point of view.

Ø Shiver me timbers! Zachariah must have led a very interesting life. Write his memoir. Including 3 events from his childhood, how he became a sailor, his description of 2 exotic ports of call, his opinion of girls becoming sailors, and 3 of his favorite recipes.

Ø Poster including the following: Title, plot, themes, setting, book review, and description and picture  of your favorite character. Be sure to include colorful background and pictures for interest.

Ø Dress like a character from the book and present a 200-500 word monologue about your favorite scene in the book. You must stay in character as you present your monologue to the class, Jack.
