Mrs. Beaty's Assignments February 18-21

IT'S GREAT TO BE A LAKESIDE CHIEF!

AISA 2A 2020 Boy's Basketball State Champions!

Congratulations to Coach Tom Clements, Coach McConnell & Tyrone Adams who gave their all to these boys. I experienced some of the best basketball games of all time. For two games, I watched our boys battle back to win in the final seconds and to see their determination to win was almost miraculous. Our cheerleaders did an outstanding job leading the crowd and supporting the team, and our student section was AWESOME! Come be a part of Lakeside sports where good things are happening. To feel a part, you must be a part.

7th & 8th graders will retake the literary device test Friday because there were either high A's (those who studied) or D's & F's (those who did not study). Whichever grade is highest will count as a test grade and the lower will count as a quiz grade. This will be the last time I retest for literary devices. Literary Device notebook will be due Friday. Students must redo any work they did not receive full credit and complete up to irony.

We looked at interjections and conjunctions this past week and will continue to study them. We will also add conjunctive adverbs. Grammar is like a puzzle, if you miss a piece, it never looks the way it should. I plan to focus on grammar and punctuation this year, and next year I will focus on writing, so students must get these basic skills.

Coordinating: For, and, nor, but, or, yet, so
Subordinating: after, because, it, so that, since, than, when, while
Correlative: both...and; either...or; not only...but also; whether...or, neither...nor
Conjunctive Adverbs (BIG words): finally, furthermore, however, instead, still, therefore

Interjections: Oh! Wow! Awesome! Yea! Rats! YES!

6th, 7th, & 8th will test on interjections and conjunctions and retake literary devices, Friday, February 21.

7th grade will continue to read Black Duck and will test soon.

Thursday 6th, 7th, & 8th will begin reading Call of the Wild in my class and in Mrs. Johnston's class. We will then take a field trip to watch the new version coming out in theaters starring Harrison Ford. Watch for more information to come!

The school is hosting a talent show. Encourage your Chief to enter!
