Mrs. Kelly - Computer Science - March 30 - April 2

Keyboarding/Computer Science (Grades 6-8)
March 30 – April 2, 2020

General Information:
  • This packet of information will also be mailed to your Google email as an attachment.
  •  All activities are to be saved to your own personal travel (flash) drive, saved in your Google Drive, or uploaded into your Google Drive account associated with your school email account.  All activities are required and will be graded.
  • Name or save all files as Assignment # – Your Name.  (Example:  Assignment 2 – Allison Kelly).
  • You may use the apps Google Docs, Google Slides, and Google Sheets for your assignments.  Login to your school email and go to the Apps icon next to your account profile to get to Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides.  The Apps icon is the 9 dots in a square in the right corner of the window.
  • You may share files created or saved in Google Drive directly from the drive by right-clicking and selecting “Share”.  Enter my email address and send.
  •  If you prefer to use Microsoft Office but do not have it available on your personal computer, laptops are available for checkout. Parents must check out a laptop for student use.
  • Graded activities are to be emailed to me at allisonmitchell.lsc@gmail.com.  I will be available Monday – Thursday from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. if you want to contact me by email with questions. You may also call my cell 334-695-1175.

 Lesson Activities/Assignments:

This week you will be completing a project that incorporates word processing skills, spreadsheet skills, and presentation skills.  You will pretend to be the owner of a new engraving and monogramming company that makes t-shirts, caps, cups, etc. for school fundraisers.  You will write a letter to the students and parents of Lakeside introducing your new business, create a spreadsheet with a chart showing the profit potential for your products, and create a presentation for open house night.

You are to come up with a unique name for your business and use it throughout all your assignments.  You may make up an address, phone number, email, or website.

Assignment 1
Create a business letter using the attached instructions for Assignment 1.  You may use Microsoft Word or Google Docs.  You may use the current date, your name as the writer, and your address as the sender’s address.  Save the file as Assignment 1 – Your Name.  Email it to me or share it with me from your Google Drive.

Assignment 2
Create a spreadsheet using the attached instructions for Assignment 2.  You may use Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets.  Save the file as Assignment 2 – Your Name.  You may email it to me or share it with me from your Google Drive.

Assignment 3
Create a presentation using the attached instructions for Assignment 3.  You are to introduce your new business to the parents and students at Lakeside during Open House.  You may use Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides.  Save the file as Assignment 3 – Your Name.  You may email it to me or share it with me from your Google Drive.
