Halloween Week is Here!

We did not get to watch or read the tales in preparation for our 7th, 8th, and 9th grade field trip this Thursday, so we will fit this in this week. We will also continue our study of punctuation.

I will be out Wednesday (a dermatology appointment-please pray I do not have basal cell cancer on my nose.) There is always the temptation to misbehave when a substitute is in charge. If the sub gets your child's name, he/she will have detention.

I need another driver for the field trip! I am sorry to say that the drivers have to pay for a $20 ticket as well :(   Students must wear uniforms on the trip. Send money for lunch.  We will leave the school at 7:45 sharp!!!!! Hopefully, we will return around 3:00. All students are expected to attend. There will be an assignment when we return. There was a parent who volunteered to drive one of our short buses, but I can't remember who.  WAS IT YOU?????

Mrs. Teresa Pre-Algebra week of 10-28

Well this past week was a little bit of a mess since I got sick in the middle of the week. This week we will pick back up in our Saxon textbook, covering lessons 22-25. Our next test will be Tuesday, Nov. 5th. We will also have a notebook check this day. Remember, the notebook counts as a test grade. Students should have the notes taken in class for each lesson as well as the homework in order in their spiral notebook.

Parents, I cannot stress enough how important it is for your student to learn their multiplication facts 1-12. It is never too late for them to learn these facts. No they won't enjoy practicing them, but they will enjoy the outcome. Please buy or make a set of flashcards and study with your child. They should not be counting these out. It takes them a long time and they are making mistakes. Thank you for all you do!

Ms. Mitchell - Computer Science - October 21-25

We are finishing our unit on letters and letterhead the early part of this week.  Individual letterhead and team projects on creating letterhead will be finished Monday and Tuesday.  All classes will have a test on working with objects (images, textboxes, and shapes) on Thursday.  We will start a new unit on flyers.

Mrs. Johnston's News and Assignments for October 21-25

6th Grade--Finishing reading and study guides for Chapter 11 Less 1 and 2. Test on Tuesday, October 29. Students should have historic fiction AR book finished by Friday, November 1. As students read, they should be thinking of symbols that represent the main character of the book. They will take an AR book and make a story quilt. Directions will come home for the quilt when needed.

7th Grade--Reading/Discussing Bill of Rights and other amendments. Completing workbook pages.

8th Grade--Chapter 2 Section 2 Ancient Egypt. Working on notes and outlining.

9th Grade--Byzantine Art Powerpoint and notes.

This week we will cover complete a worksheet over order of operations and work on lessons 22-25. Our next test is scheduled for Tuesday 10/29. We will also have a notebook check for lessons 16-25 on the same day.

Fall Temperatures Are Here!

We will have a very busy two weeks in English: commas, semi colons, colons, & prepositions

We will be reading short stories to prepare us for our field trip, October 31: "The Monkey's Paw," The Raven," and "The Tell-Tale Heart." We will also view the film The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. If you have not sent your money, please do so. If your child will not be attending, I need to know MONDAY!!!! I also need 2 more drivers or another driver for one of our small buses.

Patriot's Pen Due Thursday!!!!! We wrote most of this in class. Please look over your child's essay. It has to be typed; 300-400 words;double-spaced do not put his/her name on it.

6th graders are to read 2 AR books this 9 weeks. They already have a biography as 1 of those, but they must read another. They will receive a composite test grade: a zero if no books, a 50 if only 1 book, and a 100 if 2 books. They will also receive the grade they score on each AR test.

6th Grade--Chapter 11 Lesson 1 this week. Also students have chosen a historical fiction AR book. They will take an AR test on it for a class grade and they will complete a project. On Wednesday, October 16, students should bring in 4 objects that represent or describe them...not their favorite items such as a specific team, video or drink, but something that represents their inner qualities and likes/dislikes. (My example was my passport because I love to travel, my mother's ring to represent the love I have for my family, a little jar of beach sand because the beach is "my place of restoration", and my red checking pen to represent my teaching career.) The items should be placed in a bag and kept private until class. This will get us started on the project as we discuss symbolism.

7th Grade--Chapters 6 and 7...the amendments.

8th Grade--Chapter 2 Section 2...Egypt!!

9th Grade--Finishing architecture projects.

This week we will take our Pre-Algebra 9 weeks exam on Wednesday. This will be over lessons 1-20. We will review for this test Monday and Tuesday. We will then complete lessons 21 and 22 Thursday and Friday.
